Here's some of the most common questions we receive.  

What Is the difference between RWA® and RWA® Online?

RWA® is the national organization of Romance Writers of America®. RWA® Online, also known as RWAOL, is an affiliate chapter of RWA®. We are not the online location of RWA®

Do I have to be a member of RWA® before I can join RWA® Online?

Yes.  You must be a member in good standing with RWA® before you can apply for chapter membership in RWA® Online. We'll verify your RWA® membership during your chapter membership processing.

How does RWA® Online work?

RWAOL operates as an online-only chapter.  Our meetings and events take place in our discussion forums.  We do not use email loops because we think our Boards create a better environment for sharing and communication.

Who can attend RWAOL's workshops?

That's easy - everyone!  You do not have to be a member of RWA® or RWAOL to attend one of our workshops.  Just sign up, pay your workshop fee, and show up to class.


For RWAOL chapter members, it's even easier. There's no payment or registration required; you'll automatically see the class on the discussion forums when you log in.

How do I join RWA® Online?

If you're a member in good standing with RWA, then head over to our Join Us page to fill out the membership application.  You'll be required to create an account for our discussion forums' software and pay for your membership.  Once we receive your payment, your chapter access is granted.

Will I receive a lot of email from RWAOL?

We try not to flood your inbox with a lot of email. You will receive various notifications of chapter events (elections, workshops) periodically.  You can also choose to receive notifications from our discussion forums when new topics are added. But we don't operate like an email loop, where everything is communicated via email.  

Will my computer or mobile device work with RWA® Online?

Yes!  Wasn't that simple?

OK, we wish it really was that simple.  We don't know for sure if everything on our website will work on your computer or mobile device.  A lot depends on your browser settings.

But we've been working hard to optimize our site to work well on all devices and in most web browsers.  If something isn't working right for you, we suggest you switch to a different web browser first, just in case.

How do I pay for a workshop?  I wasn't presented a payment option when I submitted my registration form.

Workshops are paid through our discussion forums' software.  After you submit your workshop registration form, head over to our discussion forums here.

Use the Create Account link at the top of the page to register in our system. Then just log in and pay. PayPal tells our system when your payment is cleared. Most PayPal users have access right away!

Please note - workshop attendees are placed in a Holding Group until the workshop opens.

How do I pay for my membership?  I wasn't presented a payment option when I submitted my registration form.
