Sarah Reid
Happy Holidays everyone! Looking for a fresh outlook on your manuscript in 2010? Check out January's 21 Steps to Fog-Free Writing ******PERMISSION TO FORWARD GRANTED AND ENCOURAGED!!******** WritersOnlineClasses.com is proud to present one of its two online classes in January: 21 Steps to Fog-Free Writing with instructor Don McNair: Instructor: multi-published author Don McNair CLASS: 21 Steps to Fog-Free Writing 4-week class $30 January 11 – February 11, 2010 Registration ends January 10, 2010 Class Description: 21 Steps to Fog-Free Writing Publishers and agents reject 99 percent of received manuscripts after simply glancing at their first chapters. This class shows why your own manuscript was rejected . . . and how to fix it! Don McNair, a professional writer and editor for forty years, discovered the answers years ago while editing a manuscript on an airplane trip for a public relations client. Months of follow-up research showed him there were twenty-one problems that “fog up” a manuscript, diminishing its clarity and power. The big secret? Remove one or more words from those problem sentences. He named the solutions to these problems “The 21 Steps to Fog-Free Writing.” This course presents those 21 problems and solutions. After you’ve finished it you’ll be able to self-edit your work and: • Eliminate weak verb forms • Strip away author intrusions • Identify character filters • Ban redundancies • Eliminate foggy phrases • Correct passive voice sentences • Slash misused and overused words • Correct other writing bugaboos. This class will help you identify and overcome specific, personal writing challenges. When you apply this new knowledge to your manuscripts you'll immediately make them more appealing to editors and agents. And who knows? You may finally become published! Instructor Bio: Don McNair is a multi-published author who has spent forty years writing and editing for others. He first edited national trade magazines for 12 years, then handled national clients for a large public relations firm for six, and headed his own marketing communications firm for 21. His creativity won three Golden Trumpets from the Publicity Club of Chicago and the Public Relations Society of America’s Silver Anvil. The latter the U.S. PR industry’s equivalent of an Oscar or Emmy. During that time he also wrote three published non-fiction books and hundreds of articles. When McNair retired from the corporate communications world he wrote fiction. In 2006 Medallion Press published his The Long Hunter, which reviewer Harriet Klausner called “a fabulous insightful historical thriller.” Since then he’s written three more novels under his Donna McClaire penname. Calderwood Books published his young adult novel in 2007 (Attack of the Killer Prom Dresses), which was selected by EPIC as an Eppie finalist. Red Rose Publishing produced two romance novels in 2009—Maxwell’s Mansion and Valley of Love—and has accepted a third. Two years ago McNair launched McNairEdits.com, an online editing service, to help others solve writing problems he himself has overcome in his long career. His specialty is analyzing fiction writers’ first chapters, to point out and repair pitfalls that keep them from being published. He also edits complete novels and non-fiction material for both publishers and individual writers.
