RWA ® Online Chapter 136 presents…

MAKE IT LAST: How to add Sexual Tension to Your Manuscript No Matter What Romance Genre You Write

Class in session: September 10th through September 21st, 2012

Instructor: Linda Conrad

Description: What would you do if an editor asked you to “add sexual tension” to your manuscript? Well that’s what happened to multi-published author Linda Conrad as she was about to sell her first book to Silhouette Desire. Follow along with Linda as she takes her journey of discovery and learn the tricks and techniques you can apply to your own writing.

Seasoned pro or beginner, inspirational or erotica writer – it doesn’t make any difference. Every author who includes two main characters in conflict can benefit from adding sexual tension to their manuscripts. This intense workshop will include six lessons, homework and online personal participation. Learn simple secrets the best-sellers know for making your work stand out with editors and agents.

Outline of workshop:

First off, Sexual Tension has absolutely nothing to do with the act of having sex. Huh?

Well, let’s look at the definitions.

SEXUAL = not the act of having sex, but thinking about having sex

TENSION = mental or emotional strain: suspense, anxiety, excitement

So, we can say that Sexual Tension is “thinking about” or “wishing for” sex but being conflicted about actually doing it.

Interesting, no? What that means is that a character can be conflicted about either having sex or not having sex for any number of reasons. But you can see that same conflict (or tension) fitting into all romance genres from erotica to inspirational.

Follow along with author Linda Conrad as she retakes her own journey of discovery on how to write Sexual Tension. In this class you will learn how any good romance writer will go show sexual tension in her manuscripts.

The following is a listing of the lessons we’ll cover:

Lesson One: Character and Internal Conflict

Lesson Two: Character Actions and Reactions and Deep POV

Lesson Three: The Senses and Dialogue

Lesson Four: Body Language and Women’s Fantasies

Lesson Five: Putting it all Together and the Trick

Lesson Six: What “NOT” to write

That is a lot to cover in two weeks. So plan on working hard. There will be homework and class work, but it will be worth the time.
