Class dates: February 4 through 15, 2013.

Registration opens January 21, 2013.

Do you want to start off the new year of writing by starting your novel off with the right beginning? Then join us in this two week workshop as you learn the tools to hone your craft and get your story going in the right direction.

Learn about the important elements needed to set up your characters, plot and pacing in order to hook the reader/editor from page one and avoid common mistakes that can bog down your story.

Class Outline:

This workshop gives a set by step, detailed check list of elements to consider as you start each new book. The workshop covers:

1) Finding story ideas

2) Choosing a hook

3) Setting up characters with interesting conflict, backstories and motivations

4) Outlining where your story will go (goals, story themes, character growth)

5) Defining characters through their actions

6) Inciting incidents

7) Weaving in backstory without slowing the pace

8) Clichéd first meets and other things to avoid

All of the concepts covered are illustrated through examples and participation from the audience is encouraged.
