Recommended Posts

RWA®Online Presents:

Supporting Characters presented by Devon

Class Dates: June 10-24, 2013

Registration opens May 27, 2013

Registration information: http://www.rwaonlinechapter.org/campus.htm

Class blurb:

One of the many challenges writers face
is creating supporting characters that are unique and memorable without either
falling into overused tropes or taking away from the primary relationship
between protagonist and antagonist. This
workshop gives an overview of supporting archetypes in fiction and other types
of entertainment, and ideas on how to twist them, shape, them, develop them,
and make them uniquely your own. Be
prepared to write -- there will be a combination of overviews, discussions, and
short exercises. This is not a workshop
for lurkers.

Required Text: Strunk & White's Elements of Style

Exercises will include creating the
protagonist's circle, the antagonist's circle, making archetypical caricatures
into characters, and how to reign in characters who try to take over. Exercises build on each other, and must be
done IN ORDER and turned in by DEADLINE.
New exercises are posted when the previous exercise is due, not handed
out at the top of the class.
