Patti Fischer 0
COMPUTER SECURITY FOR AUTHORS AND THEIR CHARACTERS presented by Pam Trader Class begins: April 2, 2018 Length of Class: 4 weeks Cost: $15 (free for RWA® Online Chapter members) Registration opens March 19, 2018 Link to registration: http://rwaonlinechapter.org/?page_id=546 Workshop description: It's a dangerous cyberworld out there! Phishing and email scams and database hacking, oh my! What's an author to do about it all? Can you even be on the internet anymore? Is the "cloud" safe for our works in progress? Learn how phishing, spyware, and ransomware is used, how identity theft and internet scams work, and how to be safe on wi-fi networks and social media. We'll also look at the latest scary problem built into all of our computers - the villainous Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities - to assess how serious these threats are. This interactive workshop will tiptoe through the world of cybersecurity through two paths - one designed to provide authors with knowledge about computer security for their personal use. We'll also explore cybersecurity as our characters use, or avoid, those threats in our stories. Come prepared with both your questions and your character's questions in the world of cybersecurity. About Pam Trader Pam Trader is a geek who manages a few websites, webcasts a few RWA® chapter meetings, and helps her less computer-literate friends keep their computers running. In a former life she spent 20 years in the United States Air Force where she claims to have spent a lot of time on the phone with help desks trying to make the computer systems she used to do more than the designers intended. That segued into a job with a defense contractor who built those systems she nagged about where she learned the importance of good computer hygiene and eventually earned her COMPTIA Security+ certification. You can find Pam tethered to a computer in her day job building web-based instructional products and at night tinkering with those websites she manages when she's not inventing ways for her heroes and heroines to escape the clutches of notorious cyber villains. Deadline to register is April 2, 2018 FMI: http://rwaonlinechapter.org/ Or email Patti Fischer at fisc40pa@aol.com You do not need to be a RWA® member to take the class.
